Title: Options for Reducing Methane Emissions from Nitrogen Rejection Units
Description: Methane Emissions from Nitrogen Rejection Units (NRUs) are under growing scrutiny from governmental regulation and corporate environmental goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. NRUs remove nitrogen from natural gas to meet pipeline specifications, this nitrogen contains methane impurities and is often vented to atmosphere. There are three main methods to reduce methane emissions from an NRU: functional use of the nitrogen rich stream, increased vent purity via optimization and process design, and combustion of the methane. This will review the various options available for each of these methods, compare their effectiveness at reducing methane emissions, and discuss their implementation as retrofits into existing facilities, as well as the ‘future proofing’ of new designs.
9:45 – 10:15am Coffee Break
10:15 – 11:00am
Speaker: Evann Crawford – Director of Business Development
Title: Helical piles in critical oil and gas infrastructure
Description: The presentation will focus on the role of helical piles in critical oil and gas infrastructure, including pipelines, refineries, and other energy facilities. It will briefly cover their history, advantages, and disadvantages, with emphasis on cost-effectiveness and versatility across various soil conditions. Technical aspects such as load types, equipment, industry standards, capacity determination through torque, and corrosion protection methods for longevity will also be discussed.
11:00 – 11:45am
Speaker: Veronica Irurzun Conner, Principal Adsorbent Sales Engineer, Merichem Technologies
Title: Meeting Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Pipeline Specs for Raw Natural Gas Transportation Without Sacrificing Productivity – Case Studies Using Adsorbents to Increase Uptime, Reduce Maintenance Costs and Eliminate Pressure Drop Issues
Description: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) abatement is an essential step in any process where sour gas is present from upstream to downstream sectors and is particularly important in midstream operations. While the desulfurization of raw natural gas using solid adsorbents has been performed at gathering and compressor stations for years, it can still be a challenging practice these days. Operational issues such as high pressure drop, channeling, increased maintenance and frequent turnarounds drive higher costs to clients as well as increased production downtime and safety concerns. Proper product selection is essential to mitigating these challenges. Specific hydrogen sulfide solid adsorbents were developed to prevent these operational issues while providing a reliable solution to meet pipeline sulfur specs. This presentation highlights how critical operational issues were mitigated in two commercial applications, a major Integrated O&G Canadian company and a large utility company in the Southeast U.S. using pelletized iron-based oxides adsorbents.
11:45am – 1:00pm Lunch
1:00 – 1:45pm
Speaker: Tony Gedminas, Business Consultant- Transmission/Distribution -Pipelines, Burns & McDonnell
Title: Lifecycle of the RNG Process and Upgrading Technology Evaluation
Description: The biogas to Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) lifecycle involves removing impurities and increasing the methane concentration in a process referred to as upgrading. This presentation summarizes the RNG lifecycle and reviews points to consider when selecting the appropriate upgrading technology for your project.
1:45 – 2:30pm
Speaker: Veronica Nasser, Managing Director/Business Owner, Blue Industrial Partners, LLC
Title: Technologies for Reducing Methane and VOC Emissions
Description: One of the most important challenges facing energy companies today is the presence of emissions at oil & gas facilities. These emissions – either methane or volatile organic compounds – occur unintentionally when connection points leak, or by design when considering “engineered vents” on system components. While the individual impact of each of these leaks is small, the cumulative impact on the environment is significant, and it disproportionately affects the populations that live near the oil & gas facilities themselves. The process of eliminating these emissions tends to take 2 forms: either eliminating the need for the vented emission in the first place or collecting the emissions and then changing them into a less harmful substance (ie via combustion). Our presentation will review technologies that have been deployed by some of the largest natural gas companies in North America and the significant results that those new technologies have achieved in reducing methane and VOC emissions.
2:30 – 3:00pm Dessert Break
3:00 – 3:45pm
Speaker: Peter G. Demakos, P.E., Business Development Manager, Alfa Laval
Title: High Efficiency Cooling Systems for Improved Production Efficiency and Resource Conservation.
Description: Lower cooling and condensing temperatures can be a major benefit to improving process efficiency and increasing plant capacity. Closed-loop, evaporative cooling systems are a cost-effective technology for both efficient heat transfer as well as water (resource) conservation. There are several highly efficient cooling systems available for plant cooling. These range from all-dry, to hybrid (wet/dry) to all wet. This presentation will provide a systems overview and their impact on installed cost (capex), water requirements (resource conservation), parasitic power usage (carbon footprint) and operating efficiency (opex).
