Relief Valve and Flare Systems Training by
Webinar Details
Halff will be presenting a three-session relief valve training course on March 30th. The training will cover a variety of topics related to pressure safety valves and flare systems. The instructors will focus on primary principles, relief devices, concepts, and standards, associated with pressure relief and flare systems design in both plants and in pipelines. Topics ranging from industry terminology, design codes, device types to scenario identification, and design calculations will be covered.
Topics will Include…
- Relief systems overview
- Relief systems design codes
- Pressure relief device types
- Overpressure scenario identification
- Relief systems installation requirements
This training serves as an introduction for learners to acquire a foundation in essential key concepts and issues relating to effective pressure relief and flare system design. Upon completion, the learner will understand basic relief devices and systems and be able to identify common overpressure scenarios, and how to better mitigate risk.
Training Cost
$10 members/$25 non-members total for all 3 sessions

Speaker Biographies
Michael Levy is a Senior Project Manager in engineering and construction with 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. With a bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Oklahoma State University, he has refined his skills in process engineering and project management throughout the years. Michael has been involved in downstream, midstream and upstream oil and gas with experience at various companies in the industry. This includes 8 years at EnLink Midstream where he focused on the build out of the gathering and processing system in the Oklahoma Stack. Michael joined Halff as a Senior Project Manager in April of 2022. He has worked extensively with pressure relief systems his entire career. In his free time, Michael enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and three children.
John Stinnett is a chemical engineer who has been in the engineering consulting field for over 20 years. Starting at TPA in 2001, he designed Claus sulfur recover units, tail gas treaters, amine units and sour water strippers. In 2004, John joined ENGlobal Engineering and moved more towards midstream gas processing. Aside from a 3-year stint in Denver doing renewables and small refinery projects, the rest of his career has been spent for various engineering firms in the midstream space. He joined Halff in 2018 as a project manager and has since moved into a team leader role. Since joining Halff, he has gained significant gas distribution design experience. Pressure relief system design has been an important task in all of his positions throughout his career, whether associated with refining, midstream natural gas plants and compressor stations, or upstream tank batteries.
